Richard Whitehouse, GrRNCM

Richard studied at the Royal Northern College of Music before finishing his studies at the prestigious London Opera Studio where he is still the only person ever to be invited to the Opera studio without requiring an audition.

Richard’s career has seen him perform at many of the world’s most prestigious opera houses, performing title operatic roles as a classically trained baritone. He has worked with celebrated conductors including, Sir Colin Davis, Richard Hickox, Carlo Rizzi, Vladimir Jurowski and Sir Charles Mackerras. Richard has also been a regular performer on BBC Radio 2’s Friday Night is Music Night as well as a performer at The Last Night of the Proms.

No stranger to the concert platform, his appearances include; Carnegie Hall New York, The Royal Albert Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Bridgewater Hall amongst others. His recordings include Pilgrims Progress (title role), Billy Budd – Hickox LSO, Benvenuto Cellini – Sir Colin Davis LSO. DVDs Gloriana Opera North, La Bohéme Welsh National Opera and Channel 4.

This solid vocation has underpinned his 20-year teaching career, instructing in both the classical genre and musical theatre; many of his former students are now regular performers in London’s West End. He has also diversified to support people in vocal training to rebuild their voices following trauma and illness. His competence in vocal technique, interpretation, and performance ensures he provides all levels of ability and age from beginner to professional level with the confidence and tools.
